Teaching is an activity which imparts knowledge and skills. It is also about teaching good moral values to help them grow-up good and responsible citizens of the society. During my school years, I have experienced different concepts and methods in teaching from my teachers. Some are good and I want to include them in my approach of teaching. I do not want to criticize or bad mouth the others but rather used it as my guide to be a better teacher. These experiences thought me what “NOT” to do to my students.
Every kid is different and they have their own personalities. Proper teaching concept plays a vital foundation in every child’s success. You have got to encourage them to keep on learning and improving through continuous education. In my opinion, below are the best teaching concepts and strategies:
• Make every child emotionally involved. Make them feel important inside the classroom and satisfied of the knowledge of results by emphasizing the positive. With this, they will have the sense of safety, belongingness, love, esteem, and self-actualization and they will bring out the best in them. They will do more than enough.
• Encourage interaction inside the classroom and make them speak-up their own minds. Let them feel that they are contributing something to the subject.
• A teacher must conceptualize a set-up where she encourages learning through playing especially in the lower levels. It is a child’s nature to play, to develop physical coordination, emotional maturity, social skills to interact with other children, and self confidence to try new experiences and explore new environments. This brings enthusiasm to a child and therefore remembers things easily rather than teaching it formally. A child’s imagination expands rapidly by this stage and fun activities play a vital role in helping him cultivate his fast developing brain.
• It is also good to let them experience what you are trying to teach. For instance if you are teaching literature, going-out to watch a play with the students will have them get a feel of what the story is all about. In addition, they will have an experience of the theater and how important it is to arts. If resources are not available movies are available which can be done inside the classroom through CD’s or DVD’s. In that way, they are able to absorb things better compared to just listening or reading.
• I do not discourage reading. In fact it is still the most important part of learning. Children must know that books are full of treasures which can take them to places they have never been to. Let them know that books are interesting and not boring.
• And lastly, let them have a journal of their daily experiences of how they felt inside the classroom and what they have learned from it. Then let them discuss these ideas among their classmates to improve their public speaking and confidence in expressing their thoughts and opinions. Moreover, they are able to develop their writing skills.
These are my ideas on how teaching should be in every classroom. I hope I will be able to incorporate these concepts on my teaching profession so I can help the students reach their fullest potential.
May basic concept of teaching is a profession of a person who teaches. This activity is not new to us. I believe this is one of the most honorable professions. During my school days I thought that teaching is simple and easy. All they have to do is to impart the knowledge/skills from teacher to student. I realize teaching is complex/multifaceted activity. To be commensurate to the activity, the teacher needs to develop certain competencies and skills and this include a clear understanding of their role in the classroom. I tried to ask myself how it becomes a complex/multifaceted activity. Here some of my thoughts about this matter
1. They dealing with wide range of diverse people - this include the personality of the student, level of intelligence, their motivation. Unfortunately some educator tends to overlook this aspect because the school focuses on what the teacher does in the classroom. I strongly believe that there should always take consideration on how the students learn.
2. The learning environment- teacher must understand how he will maximize his resources and create a powerful learning environment. The teacher should take advantage today’s technology. This will increase their teaching efficiency. At end of the day both party will benefit from this, for the teacher they can effectively impart the knowledge/skills to their student, and for the student they can fully understand the subject and elevate their learning experience
3. Curriculum offered by school – the teacher must have clear understanding of the school curriculum as their teaching strategy will depends in here.
4. Behavior of the teacher towards student – Sometimes teachers tends to preoccupied with teaching and learning wherein they fail to monitor their daily actions that can affect the learning of the students. This non verbal language can influence the learning environment and this may print to their memory of the student.
5. Responsibility of the Teacher – as a teacher they don’t just simply teach the student. They also go beyond the responsibility of the teacher. This mostly observes in high school and elementary wherein the teacher role is not limited as an instructor. For example they act as a parent substitute. Student spends almost entire day in school. The teacher have been entrusted to look after the welfare of students while in school, another examples is they serve as counselor. The student has high respect to their teacher and sometimes they look at it as their personal mentor, unfortunately they can’t attend all the student need but they can refer their student to their guidance center.
When I was in highschool I started handling the sunday school kids in my church, Jesus the Restorer Church. I have learned that teaching is not only imparting what you know, what you have learned but also showing your students that you care for them. I believe that this proverb, "People DON’T CARE how much YOU KNOW, until they KNOW how much you care" applies also to teaching.
I believe that teaching is a gift. For me, teaching is so powerful to the extent that even the teacher himself do not know when his influence ends. It is a privilege given to those people who wants to build the youth for the better future than what we have today. It is a profession but a profession with personal touch, if I may say. Teaching is touching lives. To sum up my concept of teaching, if you can read my blog, appreciate your educator, for he/she devoted tons of time and effort on teaching you, basically on how to read, up to this moment to know what’s this all about. Happy blogging!! :D
Teaching has always been defined by textbooks as a profession because it requires special education and training. But in my opinion, i believe that teaching is more of a vocation rather than a profession. A vocation is a work that one feels called to, a strong inclination to pursue a certain way of life. And i consider teaching as a way of life because life itself is a cycle of learning.
Teaching for me is when you invest a part of yourself into the learner and hopefully, achieve your goals, i.e. the student will be able to grasp your idea,lesson... And as an educator, you should also nurture the student's creativity, allow them to express themselves in whatever way they're comfortable with. Learning should be a fun experience; both for the learner and the teacher, that being said, i think the teacher should create an amiable and accommodating atmosphere inside the classroom. Teaching is really more than a job, it is a responsibility.
My concept of teaching is not merely a profession, i regard it as a vocation as well.Teaching should include educator's intellectual and technical skills armed with their passionate desire to impart knowledge in which a studentcan use in many aspects of their lives not only in academic or in the four corners of the room. A teaching concept for me is that educators are sensitive to their tasks, styles in teaching, values and many others pertaining to how to educate their students wheather verbal or non verbal beside their wisdom, because of the great and long term impact on the students that will affect not just one individual but the society as a whole, afterall students are the future leaders. My teaching concept should be a good foundation to motivate students to learn and use it to their fullest potential and help develop themselves and the country as well, therefore a teaching concept should be responsive with the time. Meaning an educator or school is ready to produce their so called "graduates" that can answer what the society or industry asks for. My teaching concept is that it should welcome revising curriculum carefully, selecting, monitoring and updating their staff with their technical and intellectual knowledge which is both beneficial for the student, educator and standard of a school.
For me my teaching concept is to guide my student in everything they do and be their inspiration in the thing they do, and teaching is a gift from god and its a passion
